Why is CAIPS FILE helpful?

For potential immigrants to Canada, the most annoying aspect around the progression is understanding where their submission currently stands. Well, in that case only one document can help which is your CAIPS file.

What is CAIPS?

CAIPS stands for ‘Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System’. It is the computer system used by Canadian visa offices to process visa applications. We at CaipsFile can help you get a printed CAIPS file, it gives you valuable information on the current status and future processing of your Canadian permanent residence application.

Your CAIPS file is significant as every stage of the immigration process is documented here. Each time there is a drive on your file, whether a request for documents or notes being made on your medical status, immigration officials must inform your file.

CAIPS notes are important data such as how many points you have been evaluated, then the visa officer’s comments on your case.

The notes are exclusively useful if you trust that your file is taking longer than normal to process. Or if you have been called for an interview and you’d like to see what you are likely to be interviewed.

What Will CAIPS File Tell Me?

CAIPS to some extent is used differently in every visa office. The following information here describes certain situations in Canada visa offices, and might not depict the usage in your specific visa office.

Case 1: You have not received your Acknowledgement of Receipt

If you have just submitted the application and not received your Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) then your CAIPS file will probably not have been created yet.

Some visa offices do not send out AORs as competently as others – and so the nonappearance of an AOR might not mean that the CAIPS file has not been created. Obtaining your file in these circumstances is abstract, but will check whether the visa office has received/started processing your application or not.

Case 2: You have just received your Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR)

The CAIPS file will usually have a useful piece of information: the file’s authorized ‘bring forward date’ tells you when (in theory) your submission will be put on an immigration officer’s desk for formal assessment.

Case 3: You called for the interview

The CAIPS file has the immigration officer’s notes entered when he studied the file and decided to conduct an interview, as well as assess your initial points. The CAIPS notes will generally specify why you need to be questioned and provides pointers for extra material you will need to existing at the interview to argue your case.

Case 4: You have taken your medicals but are still waiting

The standard reasons for delays after taking your medicals includes waiting for the medicals to be ‘rubber stamped’, a postponement in CSIS (Canadian Security and Intelligence Service) security/background checks (there are not unusual for applicants who have travelled widely or are applying from certain countries), or some missing documentation. CAIPS will specify if security checks have been completed, and what other steps are left if any. However, it will NOT show any details about the actual processing of your background checks.

We know how frustrating and confusing the process is, and hope that our service can help you understand a little better what is going on with your application for immigration to Canada.
